I’m Anh Ly, CEO and designer at Mim Concept, a minimalist furniture company. As a founder with an architecture background, I started by doing nearly everything myself, from product design to customer communication, so my first remote hires changed the business in a very practical way.
My first remote hire was a freelance content and Shopify support specialist. I reached that point when I realized I was spending 12 to 15 hours a week updating product pages, answering repetitive customer questions, and fixing small site issues instead of designing.
Within about three months, my response times dropped by roughly 40 percent, and I had enough time back to develop two new product launches.
Later, I added remote design support for renderings and marketing assets, which helped us maintain a polished brand without carrying full-time overhead.
Remote hiring didn’t just save time. It forced me to build a business that could run on systems, not constant founder rescue.

What didn’t work was assuming creative people could succeed without detailed brand references and weekly check-ins. That was an important lesson. Remote creative support still needs structure. The work gets better when expectations, references, and review rhythms are all clearly defined.
For me, remote hiring was not just about delegation. It was about building a business that could keep moving without every small task flowing back through the founder.
That changed the business in a very real way. It gave me time back for product design, improved customer responsiveness, and helped us grow the brand without adding heavy fixed overhead too early.
